Details: HPD Officers were dispatched to a complaint from a 43-year-old male on the above date at the above location. Officers made contact with Mr. Wells on a later date and issued him an NTA for Hoopeston City Court for the above charges

Police Remove Firearm from Convicted Felon Resulting in Prison Sentence

On July 22, 2025, Elrico Donelson (DOB: 9/7/2003), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his term of imprisonment, Donelson will serve 1 year of mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing hearing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin. The People presented evidence that on May 21, 2024, an officer with the Danville Police Department was on patrol when he observed a vehicle to be illegally parked. As law enforcement approached, some people in the area of the vehicle fled on foot. Elrico Donelson was observed by officers as he exited the passenger side of the vehicle and was the only individual observed to be in the vehicle at that time. A number of guns were recovered, including one personally possessed by Donelson. The defendant was also identified in various social media posts, which showed him in possession of the same gun. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy expressed gratitude to the Danville Police Department for their diligent efforts in this case. She added, “Repeat offenders with access to firearms are a direct threat to public safety. We will continue to work with our local police departments to take steps towards protecting our neighborhoods and preventing violent crime.”

PETITION PACKETS FOR GENERAL PRIMARY ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 2026

The first day petitions for established political parties may be circulated is Tuesday, August 5th, 2025. Petition packets must be filed with the Vermilion County Clerk beginning Monday, October 27th, 2025 at 8:00 a.m. thru Monday, November 3rd, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. The order in which candidates file will determine their placement on the ballot. In the event two candidates file for the same office and are of the same party, a lottery will be held at a later date and time to determine ballot placement. Local offices to be nominated at the March 17, 2026 General Primary Election include County Clerk, County Treasurer, County Sheriff, Supervisor of Assessments, Board of Review, Regional Superintendent of Schools and County Board Members. Precinct Committeepersons will be elected at the General Primary Election. Federal, state and judicial offices will also be on the ballot. Information and necessary forms for those offices may be found on the State Board of Elections’ website, www.elections.il.gov. The candidate who receives the highest vote total in each political party for each office in the primary will be on the 2026 General Election ballot. Details: After HPD Officers received a report from a Hoopeston male that occurred in the above location, both juveniles were located and arrested for the above charges. The juveniles were brought back to the Hoopeston Police Station where they were processed and later released to their parents. HFD was dispatched per the request of HPD to assist with the call.

Officers brought Mr. Weigand to the Hoopeston Police Department for processing then later transported him to the Danville Public Safety building to await arraignment.

Wanted on Champaign Co. Warrant H25-4206/2025-4770

Arrested: Linsey Warner (F) (37) of Hoopeston

Details: HPD Officers made contact with Ms. Warner at the above location. A computer check revealed Ms. Warner had a valid warrant out of Champ. Co. Officers arrested Ms. Warner, brought her to the HPD, then later transported her to the Danville Public Safety building to await extradition.

violation. After taking officers on a brief chase, they located the subject, and he was

arrested. He was transported to HPD, processed and later taken to the PSB in

Danville to await arraignment.

Unit #2: 2024 EZ-GO Golf Cart Driven by Shane Thompson of Hoopeston

Details: Unit #1, traveling southbound on S. 3rd Street, failed to yield at the intersection on E Washington striking Unit #2 who was traveling westbound. No injuries were reported, and Unit #1 was issued a citation for the above violation and released from the scene.

Armed Felon Sentenced to Prison After Fleeing from Police

On July 3, 2025, Marcus Batts (DOB: 7/20/1998), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of Weapon by a Felon, a class 2 felony. Batts was sentenced to 9 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and will serve a term of 1 year mandatory supervised release following his incarceration. The People presented evidence that on March 25, 2025, an officer with the Danville Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a violation of the vehicle code. Marcus Batts was the driver of the vehicle. Instead of stopping, Batts led police on a car chase, eventually turning into an alleyway and the officer lost pursuit of the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was located and when the officer approached the vehicle, Batts fled on foot. The defendant was quickly apprehended and just before the police caught him, Batts threw a gun over a fence which was recovered by police. The officer also located a small bag of heroin on Batts’ person. Batts has been previously convicted of a felony gun offense. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department. She also said, “This defendant not only possessed a firearm unlawfully, but also showed blatant disregard for public safety by leading officers on a dangerous car chase through our city streets. We are grateful no one was hurt, and this sentence shows our continued commitment to holding repeat offenders accountable.”
