Domestic Abuser Sentenced to Prison After Victim Loses Eye in Violent Attack

On February 21, 2025, Jeremy Brown (DOB 4/13/1995), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Aggravated Domestic Battery – Great Bodily Harm, a class 2 felony. Judge Mark S. Goodwin presided over the plea hearing and sentenced Brown to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and the defendant is required to serve 85% of his sentence. Following his term of imprisonment, Brown will also serve a term of 4 years of mandatory supervised release. The People presented evidence that a detective with the Danville Police Department was dispatched to a residence on Oak Street to speak with a victim about a domestic battery that occurred on September 14, 2024 involving Jeremy Brown. Brown had been at the victim’s apartment and was leaving. Brown re-entered the apartment and the victim told him to leave. Brown then punched the victim in the face. The victim’s shirt was covered in blood. Brown drove the victim to OSF where he informed medical personnel the victim had been injured when he accidentally elbowed her in the eye. Upon speaking with the detective, Brown stated, “my reflex punched her.” The victim had to be transferred by helicopter to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment. The orbital bones surrounding the victim’s eye had been broken and she ultimately lost her eye as a result of her injuries. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy expressed gratitude to the Danville Police Department for their thorough investigation. She added, “The victim in this case endured unimaginable pain and lost her eye at the hands of this violent criminal. With the criminal case now resolved, we hope and pray that the victim can begin the true healing process. My office remains dedicated to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence in our community.”

Senator Rose Reacts to Governor Pritzker's New Budget Proposal

State Sen. Chapin Rose (R-Mahomet) issued the following statement regarding Governor JB Pritzker’s budget address:

“Pritzker has a spending problem. Since Governor Pritzker took office, the budget has skyrocketed by nearly $15 billion, a staggering 37% increase. Think about that. How many people have had a paycheck at home that has gone up 37% in just a few couple years?

“Year after year Governor Pritzker has blown up the state budget. Illinoisians simply cannot keep up, and instead of making responsible choices, the Governor is looking to taxpayers to bail him out all while continuing to provide free healthcare for illegal immigrants.

“Enough is enough. The people of Illinois deserve better. They deserve responsible budgeting, fiscal transparency, and policies that put them first, not political ambition.”

Vermilion Advantage raises concerns regarding reopening of firing range at the Danville Correctional Facility

Vermilion Advantage was recently informed by some of its members of a leter they received from the Illinois Atorney General’s office sta?ng that the Atorney General has filed a mo?on to vacate the permanent injunc?on and restore the firing range at the Danville Correc?onal Facility. (See the atached leter) The injunc?on was originally granted as the firing range had a severe nega?ve impact on the businesses in the area. Vermilion Advantage strongly opposes this ac?on by the Atorney General and opposes the effort to reopen the firing range at the Danville Correc?onal Facility. The east side of the City of Danville is home to a large por?on of the significant economic development that has happened over several decades. That area is an area of atrac?on that features the Golden Nugget Casino, Salt Grass Steakhouse, and most of the community’s hotels. Vermilion Advantage President Mike Marron stated, “The sound of live firing of weapons is severely detrimental to business and will have an adverse effect on business reten?on and development. Imagine enjoying a drink on the pa?o at Salt Grass to the sound of rifle fire or bringing in an interna?onal customer to one of our manufacturing facili?es as gun shots ring out in the air.” Vermilion Advantage asks the Atorney General to reconsider his decision to proceed with this mo?on. We request the assistance of our State Legislators to intervene with the Illinois Department of Correc?ons. Vermilion Advantage will be holding an informa?onal mee?ng at Salt Grass Steakhouse, 204 Eastgate Drive, on Wednesday, February 19th at 9:00 A.M., to organize opposi?on to this mo?on. We invite any concerned member of our organiza?on to atend and request assistance from our members in the legal profession for assistance. Vermilion Advantage’s mission is business recruitment and reten?on and they represent and advocate for almost 500 businesses in Vermilion County.

36 Year Prison Sentence for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery in Parking Lot of Danville Business

On January 31, 2025, Bradlee Williams (DOB: 8/8/1996), formerly of Tilton, Illinois, pleaded guilty to charges of Armed Robbery, a class X felony, for which he was sentenced to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and to Aggravated Battery, a class 3 felony for which he will serve a consecutive sentence of 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Judge Mark S. Goodwin presided over the Plea hearing. Following his term of imprisonment, Williams will serve 18 months of mandatory supervised release. The People presented evidence that after 11:00 PM, on the night of May 17, 2023, Danville Police responded to the parking lot of a business on Gilbert Street. Officers arrived on scene and quickly began providing life-saving first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim stated to police that he was there to meet Kaleb Cotton. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Witnesses reported to police, and security footage from the area confirmed that the co-defendants left the parking lot in a white Cadillac after the shooting occurred. A short time later, the Cadillac was located at the residence of Kaleb Cotton. Through further investigation, police determined that the co-defendants had switched vehicles before fleeing to a hotel on Lynch Road in Danville. Both Williams and Cotton were located at the hotel. While speaking with police, Cotton admitted to being present during the shooting and through further investigation, it was determined that Bradlee Williams was the shooter. Kaleb Cotton was previously sentenced at a hearing in October 2024. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department for their quick response in providing aid to the shooting victim, as well as in their work to locate both defendants following this senseless crime. She added, “It is my hope that this case will serve as a reminder of the consequences that can result from acts of violent crime.”
