Hoopeston Police Report 4/1/25

Operating Uninsured Vehicle H25-1903

Details: HPD officers conducted a traffic stop at the above location. Mr. Medina was found to be driving on the above charge. He was cited and released from the scene with an NTA for Vermilion County Court.

Traffic Accident H25-1864

Date/Time: 3/28/25 @ 7:50 p.m.

Unit #1: A 2017 Jeep driven by Jason Wisdom (M) (28) of Hoopeston

Unit #2: A 1998 Pickup driven by Joseph Tetrault (M) (36) of Hoopeston

Details: HPD and HFD were dispatched to a traffic accident. Unit 1 driving Eastbound on Thompson with no headlights struck Unit 2 head on, who was driving westbound and turning onto South 6th Ave. Unit 1 was cited for Driving Without Lights When Required. Unit 2 was cited for Illegal Transportation of Alcohol. No injuries were reported and both parties were insured.

Arrested: Kenneth Dale II (M) (44) of Hoopeston

Details: While HPD was investigating another call, officers identified Mr. Dale at the residence. HPD knew he was wanted for the above charge from a prior incident and took him into custody. Mr. Dale was processed at HPD then was later transported to the PSB in Danville to await arraignment.

 

Traffic Accident H25-1854

Time: 10:24 a.m.

Location: 100 Block of South Third St.

Unit #1: A semi-truck driven by Ryan Thorpe (M) (46) of Georgia

Unit #2: Pole owned by Frontier

Details: Unit 1, turning southbound onto S. Third from the alleyway, struck the overhead cable, stretching the cable, causing it and the pole to come down. The area was secured, and Frontier was notified. No tickets or injuries were reported.

Details: While on patrol, HPD officers made contact with Mr. Fouse recognizing he was wanted on the above charge for a prior incident. HPD officers transported Mr. Fouse to HPD for processing then he was released with an NTA for Vermilion County Court.

Unit #2: An unoccupied 2000 Dodge owned by Phillip Newell (M) (60) of Danville

Details: Unit #1 traveling eastbound on E. Seminary in the above area when he struck a parked Unit #2. No injuries or tickets were reported.

 

Traffic Accident H25-1825

Unit #1: A 2017 Freightliner driven by Gerald Kennedy (M) (27) of Danville

Unit #2: A 2008 Nissan driven by Amy Hoover (F) (43) of Hoopeston

Details: Both units were parked in an alley to the east of the above location. Unit #1 started to back out and struck Unit #2, which was parked directly behind it. No injuries or citations were reported and both units were insured.

Vermilion County, IL Prepares for 200th Anniversary with Year-Long Celebration

As Vermilion County, IL approaches its 200th anniversary, the Vermilion County Museum and a dedicated team of volunteers are planning a celebration to honor the county’s rich history and unique communities. A key component of this milestone will be a county-wide calendar highlighting parades, festivals, annual community celebrations, and other special events taking place between November 2025 and December 2026. Local organizations and event planners are invited to submit their upcoming events for inclusion in the anniversary calendar. In addition to promoting these events, the anniversary team hopes to attend and participate in as many celebrations as possible throughout the county. “We want to ensure that all of Vermilion County’s communities are represented in this historic celebration,” says Sue Richter, 200th Anniversary Co-Chair. “This is an opportunity to showcase the traditions, culture, and community spirit that make our county so special.” Richter and Todd Lee are co-chairing the anniversary celebration. To have an event featured in the official 200th-anniversary calendar, organizers should submit event details—including name, date, time, location, and a brief description—via email to lisa@whitesmith.us by June 1, 2025. Organizations are also encouraged to share this invitation with others who may have relevant events. Hoopeston Police Report 3/26/25

Traffic Accident

Time: 9:35 a.m.

Location: Just West of Hoopeston on Route 9

Details: HFD, HPD, Arrow and IL State Police were all dispatched to the area for a report of a traffic

accident. Upon arrival there were no injuries, and no entrapment. A computer check

revealed the driver was revoked and had an outstanding Douglas County warrant. IL State Police arrived, and the scene was transferred to them.

Wanted on an Ogle County Warrant (Delayed Entry)H25-1740, 2025-1886 Time/Date: 08:18 p.m.,03/23/2025 Location: 1023 W Main (The Pump) Arrested: Details: Sandra Hessian (F) (66) of Hoopeston HPD Officers responded to a call at the above location for a subject to be removed. A computer check revealed that Ms. Hessian was wanted on a Warrant out of Ogle County. Ms. Hessian was located and arrested. She was brought to HPD for processing and later transported to the Public Safety Building in Danville.

An investigation was carried out and officers located Ms. Welch. She was arrested for the above charges and processed at HPD. Later, she was transported to the Public Safety Building in Danville to await arraignment.

Details: Unit 1 was traveling southbound on S 1st Ave when it disregarded the stop sign at the intersection striking Unit 2 in the front driver’s side. The driver of Unit 1 was issued citations for Disobeying Traffic Control Device and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident. Both vehicles were insured, and no injuries were reported.

Details: HPD officers stopped the vehicle Ms. Deno was driving for a traffic violation. A computer

check revealed she didn’t have a valid driver’s license. She was arrested and taken to HPD

to be processed. She was released with a NTA for obstructing identification, 3 traffic citations and Vermilion County court date.

Details: HPD officers located Ms. Solis after a computer check revealed she had an active warrant. She was taken into custody and processed at HPD then later transported to the PSB in Danville to await arraignment.

Danville Man Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison for Burglary of Neighbors Home

On March 14, 2025, Zachary Spence (DOB: 2/16/1982), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Residential Burglary, a class 1 felony, and was sentenced to 7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his prison sentence, Spence will serve 1-year of mandatory supervised release. The plea was presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin. The People presented evidence that on May 30, 2024, a residential burglary was reported to the Danville Police Department. The victim reported that she had returned to her residence to find that several items were missing, including several pairs of shoes, a hoverboard and multiple televisions. The victim became suspicious of her neighbor, Zachary Spence, and asked him whether he was responsible for the burglary. Spence asked the victim if she wanted to look around his residence for her items and she accepted. Once inside the residence, the victim observed the missing hoverboard. Subsequently, Danville Police obtained and executed a search warrant for Spence’s residence and were able to recover several pairs of the victim’s stolen shoes. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department. She also extended her gratitude to the victim for her courage and coming forward to report the crime to the police.

Details: HPD officers made contact with Ms. Frazier after a computer check revealed she was in violation of an Order of Protection. Ms. Frazier was processed at HPD then was later transported to the PSB in Danville to await arraignment.

investigation, Mr. Savage was arrested and taken to HPD to be processed. He was later

released with a Notice to Appear in Vermilion County.

Danville house fire claims the life of resident

Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden has identified the victim of the house fire that occurred early this morning, 03/12/2025 on Fletcher Drive North in Danville as 85-year-old Judith A. David, resident of the home. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday and her family has been notified.

 

Coroner McFadden stated that the Danville Fire Department and the Illinois State Fire Marshall’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Operating Motor Vehicle With Suspended Registration For Mandatory Insurance Violation,

Operating Uninsured Vehicle H25-1476

Location: State Route 1/State Route 9

Cited: Kaitlyn B. Johnson (F) (35)

Details: HPD officers conducted a traffic stop at the above location. A computer search revealed that the vehicle’s registration was suspended. Ms. Johnson was charged with the above charges and released from the scene with citations and an NTA for Vermilion Co. Court. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

Vermilion County Burglar Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison

On March 6, 2025, Jeremy Hacquet (DOB 1/11/1980), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty in 2023-CF-470 to Burglary, a class 2 felony, and in 2024-CF-77 to Residential Burglary, a class 1 felony. Hacquet was sentenced to 10 years Illinois Department of Corrections for each case, with sentences to run concurrently. Following his term of imprisonment, Hacquet will serve one year of mandatory supervised release. Judge Mark S. Goodwin presided over the plea and sentencing. The People presented evidence that on August 2, 2023, the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a residence for a burglary. The victim reported that Jeremy Hacquet had entered a detached garage on the victim’s property and stole a Husqvarna weed eater. Investigators made contact with Hacquet, who admitted to taking the weed eater, but claimed he had been given permission to do so. Investigators confirmed with the victim that Hacquet was not given permission to be on the property, or to take the weed eater. The People also presented evidence to the Court regarding a second incident on February 8, 2024, when deputies with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a burglary of a residence. The elderly victim, who had been hospitalized for multiple days, was unaware that her home had been burglarized until her son discovered the break-in as he was checking on the home. Upon investigation, it was determined that numerous items had been stolen from inside the home, including US currency, tools, musical instruments, and jewelry. Video surveillance from the area identified Jeremy Hacquet as the suspect. Additionally, a witness reported seeing Hacquet moving items out of the residence and had asked for help moving the items. Although he denied involvement, Hacquet was found in possession of property stolen from the victim’s home. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for their thorough work in these cases. She said, “The residents of Vermilion County deserve peace of mind knowing their homes are protected from criminals who seek to invade their privacy and steal from them. Video surveillance is a wise and effective option for any property owner to assist Law Enforcement, as it aids to hold criminals accountable for their actions.” 

Balloons Over Vermilion Announces 2024 Community Impact Grants

In 2024, Balloons Over Vermilion NFP, launched its eighth year of presenting the summer’s hottest festival, as well as presenting for the fourth year Vermilion County’s holiday kickoff event, the Festival of Trees! The Community Impact Award celebration highlights several of the wonderful contributions that these events bring to Vermilion County throughout the year.

These events are made possible each year through the hard work of a team of dedicated steering committee members and the generous support of hundreds of sponsors and volunteers. “We are always amazed at the outpouring of support we receive each year for these two events. While Vermilion County’s love affair with hot air ballooning began back in the 1980’s, the Festival of Trees will be celebrating its 28th anniversary in 2025. “Every year supporters from Vermilion County, along with guests from throughout the Midwest, turn out for these wonderful family events and we sincerely appreciate that support. Everyone who buys a ticket, enjoys a snow cone or a beer, strolls through the decorated trees, visits the Festival raffle house or brings their family out to witness the splendor of a balloon launch and glow, all become members of our Balloons Over Vermilion family,” stated Pat O’Shaughnessy, Balloons Over Vermilion NFP Board Chair. "The support these events receive from everyone involved grows stronger each year. After the presentation of all grant recipients, Jaclyn Vinson, Balloons Over Vermilion Event Co-Chair and Board member, introduced the 2025 Host Student Ambassador classes; the Third, Fourth and Fifth grade classes at First Baptist Christian School in Danville. Mrs. Seest will be coordinating the Ambassador activities and classroom lessons for the three classes.

 

O’Shaughnessy stated, “Both events owe a huge thank you to Julius W. Hegeler II and his foundation. His vision of what his hometown could be inspires us even today.”

Armed Robbery of Local Business Results in 13 Year Prison Sentence

On March 6, 2025, Lamar Robinson (DOB 10/7/1992), formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Armed Robbery, a class X felony. Following his release from prison, Robinson will serve 18 months mandatory supervised release. Judge Mark S. Goodwin presided over the plea and sentencing. The People presented evidence that on January 14, 2021, an Officer with the Danville Police Department was flagged down by a citizen who informed him that a business on East Main Street was being robbed. As the officer approached, a male fled from the business with United States currency in his possession, and a foot chase ensued. The suspect was apprehended and identified as Lamar Robinson. Upon further investigation, the victim, an employee of the business, informed police that Robinson had entered the store and asked about sleep medicine. During their conversation, Robinson produced a knife and threatened the victim. Robinson then went to the register, put the knife down and grabbed United States currency out of the register with both hands. The victim attempted to reach for the knife, but Robinson grabbed it first and stabbed the victim. The entire crime was caught on video surveillance. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy expressed her appreciation to the Danville Police for their quick response in apprehending the armed robber. She also acknowledged the bravery of the witness who flagged down an officer, playing a crucial role in preventing the suspect from escaping.

After an investigation, it was determined Mr. McClure was the suspect. On 3/3/25, Mr. McClure came to HPD to inquire as to why officers were looking for him. He was arrested, processed, and later released with an NTA for Vermilion County.
