ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TO CONDUCT ALCOHOL COUNTERMEASURE ENFORCEMENT PATROLS

Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 7 Commander, Captain Brian Dickmann, announces the ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Macon and Vermilion counties during July. ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for motorists who show signs of impaired driving, operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, and transporting open alcoholic beverages, as well as improper seatbelt and child restraint usage, distracted driving, and other Illinois Vehicle Code violations. Alcohol and drug impairment are estimated to be a factor in more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 39 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Danville Man Sentenced to 14 years in Prison for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault

On June 26, 2024, Logan Swisher (DOB:01/22/2002), previously of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, for the offense of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, a class X felony. The sentence must be served at 85%. Swisher entered into a partial plea agreement on May 9, 2024, with a possible maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Swisher’s prison sentence will be followed by a term of mandatory supervised release of 3 years to life, to be determined by the Prison Review Board. As a part of his conviction, Swisher must also register as a sex offender for life. During argument, Judge Derek Girton heard evidence from the State that on March 4, 2023, a Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle parked inside Ellsworth Park after the park was closed. Upon further investigation, the deputy observed a female sitting in the front passenger’s seat and the defendant, Logan Swisher, sitting in the back seat with no shirt on. The deputy then observed Swisher go over the center console into the driver’s seat. The deputy contacted the guardian of the female and it was discovered that the female was a 10-year-old minor. While speaking with law enforcement, Swisher admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with the minor multiple times. During the sentencing hearing Judge Girton read a letter from the victim who expressed her trauma suffered due to the acts of Swisher. State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanks the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for their quick response to this horrific crime. She added, “In these situations, children may not fully comprehend the abuse that has been perpetrated on them. The long-term effects of predatory sexual assault of a child are immeasurable. My heart goes out to the victim and her family as they work toward healing.”

Judge Mark Goodwin heard evidence that on March 12, 2024 around 1:30 A.M., Danville Police Officers responded to a call for shots fired at 224 Tennessee in Danville.
