Joan W. "PeeWee/Lil Bit" Glover, 91 of Hoopeston

Joan W. “PeeWee/Lil Bit” Glover, 91 years young, passed away at 3:35 A.M. Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. She was born July 21, 1934, in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of Ralph Lester and Beulah Gwendolyn (Tyler) Glover.  She married Cecil Clio Leslie, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 2970.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Kay Leslie-Dawdy (Frank); one son, Steven M. (Sherrie) Leslie; son-in-law, Terry L. Shaffer; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jacqueline Shaffer; five sisters; and six brothers.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and no services will be held.

John Glenn "Jack" McNeely, 82, of Armstrong

John Glenn “Jack” McNeely, 82, of Armstrong, IL, passed away at 12:58 A.M. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at his home. He was born July 15, 1943, in Danville, IL, the son of Ivan “Ike” and Hylma (Whiteman) McNeely. He married Bonnie M. Hiller on September 5, 1970, in Granville, ND.

He is survived by one daughter, Misti Lee Trzebiatowski (Michael C. Borbash) of Milwaukee, WI; two sons, Jason Andrew McNeely of Penfield, IL and Matthew Austin McNeely (Jamie Patton) of Paxton, IL; five sisters, Sharon Frazier, Myrna Johnson, Maureen Klein (Marty Hambleton), Dana (Dan) Mitola, and Lauren (Tommy) Rutledge; two brothers, Mike (Cathy) McNeely and Tim McNeely; sister-in-law, Patricia McNeely; brother-in-law, Chuck Davis; five grandchildren, Erica S. Zindars (Kevin Warren), Hanna M. Trzebiatowski, Reed R. Trzebiatowski, Amber K. Ellis, and Nautica B. McNeely; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Marlene McNeely, Florence Davis, and Nancee Mathews; three brothers, Patrick McNeely, Joe McNeely, and Bill McNeely; and four brothers-in-law, Howard Johnson, Andy Stone, Don Frazier, and Bob Mathews.

Jack graduated from Rankin High School in 1962. He served in the United States Marine Corps in the First Battalion, 9th Marines, also known as “The Walking Dead”, during Vietnam. He first worked at Uarco in Watseka, Uniroyal in Joliet, and then Economy Fire and Casualty Co. as a Claim Adjuster. He then worked for Schwan’s Ice Cream, sold pastries to grocery stores for Saps Bakery, and worked for Charles Chips Distributor. He later sold first aid and safety products for Zee Medical, then Green Guard First Aid Co., and retired from Getz Fire and Equipment in their First Aid Division.  Jack was involved in Veteran Affairs and proudly donated to several charities. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, and playing cards. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, and attending family events.

Visitation will be held 4:00 -7:00 P.M. Friday, August 22, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the funeral home with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in East Lynn Cemetery in East Lynn, IL.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Jack to the Danville War Museum or Crossroads Women’s Center in Danville.

Frances (Denton) Miller Harris, 94, of Hoopeston

Frances (Denton) Miller Harris, 94, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 7:08 P.M. Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center. She was born on October 26, 1930, in Tilton, IL, and was adopted at the age of six weeks by Clifford and Anna (Schmidt) Denton. She attended Hoopeston schools and spent the rest of her life in Hoopeston. She married Charles “Bud” Miller on February 14, 1948, and there were three children born to this union, Ed (Sue) Miller of Ocala, FL, Loni (Tony) Gress of Hoopeston, IL and Kevin (Rebecca) Miller of Buckhead Ridge, FL. Fran later married Lonnie Harris on February 7, 1987, and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1992.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, and one granddaughter, Amanda Garman Landers on January 25, 2025.

In addition to her three children, Fran is survived by five grandchildren, Andi (Jason Berning) Garman of Naples, FL, Emily (Rick) Emery of Greenville, NC, Ashlee (Scott) Polen of Wilmington, NC, Missy (Victoria) Holst of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Dawn Ann (Mike) Pricer of Newtown, IL; twelve great-grandchildren, Zachary (Misty Watson) Garman, Baylea (Kyle Peters) Hasbargen, Blaine and Chaz Landers, Mary Ella Polen, Richie and Sofia Emery, Zane LaBonte, Reid and Jacob Pricer, Whitney (Riley) Jones, and Madison (Austin) Reffett; and six great-great-grandchildren, Anna Lucas, Leyton Peters, Owen and Noah Jones, and Gatlen and Lynna Reffett. She is also survived by a very special caregiver, Misty Watson, whom she loved like a daughter; and also survived by her constant companion, her dog, Bella, who she loved better than her children, because in her words, Bella doesn’t talk back like kids do.

Fran worked for several years at the Coachman in Rossville, and the VFW in Hoopeston. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 26, 2025, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, IL with Larry Baughn officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Fran to the Hoopeston Animal Rescue Team, (H.A.R.T), 901 W. Main St., Hoopeston, IL 60942.

Carol Sue McKinley, 82, of Bismarck, IL, formerly of El Paso

Carol Sue McKinley, 82, of Bismarck, IL, formerly of El Paso, IL and Kansas City, KS, passed away on August 13, 2025, at her home.

She was born July 13, 1943, in Lewistown, IL, to Arthur and Pauline (Brillhart) Yocum.  She married Wesley E. McKinley on September 3, 1961, in Gridley, IL.  He preceded her in death on January 27, 2022.

She is survived by two daughters-Lucinda Kay (Bruce) Johnson and Lori Sue (James) Johnson; six grandchildren-Michael Peters, Eric (Hannah) Johnson, Shawn (Megan) Johnson, Tyler (Lindsey) Peters, Mitchell (Julia) Peters and Samone Johnson; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother- Keith Yocum of Cedar Park, TX; one sister- Beth Ann (Robert) Hazzard of Lewistown, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers- Robert and Gerald Yocum and one sister- Paula Yocum.

Carol was employed for several years at Plastic Pack in Kansas City, KS, prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Stony Point Christian Church in Kansas City, KS. Her interests included quilting, sewing, baking, cooking, and spending quality time with her family.

Visitation is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21st, 2025, at Edgewood Church, located at 236 Poland Rd., Danville, IL. In accordance with Carol’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following visitation, with interment to follow at a later date in Gridley Cemetery. Marion Bell,  90, of Cheneyville

Marion “Tooter” Bell, 90, of Cheneyville, IL, passed away at 8:24 A.M. Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his home. He was born April 27, 1935, at home in Hoopeston, the son of Archie and Clara (Hinton) Bell. He married Michele “Mickey” Trombley on June 23, 1988, in Henderson, KY. She survives in Cheneyville.

He is also survived by two daughters, Shala (Jeff) Funk of Hoopeston, IL and Stephanie Brooks of South Boston, VA; one son, Sam (Angie) Bell of Hoopeston, IL; brother, Gary (Terri) Bell of Hoopeston, IL; sisters-in-law, Blondia Bell of Hoopeston, IL and Linda Bell of Henning, IL; brother-in-law, Jerry Trombley of Hoopeston, IL; nine grandchildren, Natalie (Brian) Pettice, Ryan (Ashley) Bell, Carly Bell, Brandi Bell, Taylor Brooks, Isaiah Bell, Hannah (Trent) Pilcher, Connor Brooks, and Kaelyn Brooks; fourteen great-grandchildren, Vaida, Chris, Mackenzie, Layton, Anasyn, Brylee, Mallory, Alyssa, Jameson, Jaxon, Gavin, George, Georgia, and Novalee; one great-great-grandchild, Theo; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Edith (Joe) Sprague, Archie Jr. “Bud” (Libby) Bell, Robert “Snookie” (JoAnne) Bell, Kenny Bell, Carl Eugene Bell, Larry (Ellen Sue) Bell, Terry Bell, Shirley (Jim) Malott, and Sharon Robinson; sister-in-law, Kathy Dickinson; and first wife, Ruthanne.

In his earlier years, Tooter was a Deputy Sheriff. He then worked as the head of security at The Village Mall in Danville and later became a machinist at TMF, until his retirement. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1958 as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Tooter was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, and watching World War II and Western movies. He also loved telling stories about the old days. Tooter loved his family with all of his heart, especially his grandkids and great grandkids whom he called his “babies”.

Cremation rites will be accorded, and a graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston. Military rites will be accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hoopeston American Legion Honor Guard, 502 E. Penn St., Hoopeston, IL 60942.

Larry Farrell, 83, of Hoopeston

Larry Lee Farrell, 83, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 4:20 P.M. Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his home. He was born April 12, 1942, in Ambia, IN, the son of Raymond and Marjorie (Boltz) Farrell. He married Vickie Gaydos on May 1, 1971, at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston.

He is also survived by two sons, David (Maria) Farrell of Tucson, AZ and John (Carolyn) Farrell of McCordsville, IN; two sisters, Doris Long of St. Joseph, IL and Patricia Farrell of Hoopeston, IL; one sister-in-law, Ruby Farrell of Hoopeston, IL; six grandchildren, David, Ryan, Nolan, Viviana, Jack, and Paige Farrell; one great grandchild, River Ty Farrell; and three nieces and nephews, Tom (Cheryl) Long, Lisa (Kevin) Sage, and Beth (Jeremiah) Eyrich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mick Farrell; and brother-in-law, Tom Long.

Larry owned and operated L & M Lunch in downtown Hoopeston with his brother, Mick, from December 20, 1965, until their retirement in March 2008. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserve for six years. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hoopeston where he served as an usher and on the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384 and the Hobby Club. Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, collecting antiques, and having coffee with friends.

A visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Monday, August 18, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 12:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home with Father Ignatius Mulenda and Father Ted Pracz officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston with military rites being accorded by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.

Ernest J. "Ernie" Hurt, 96, of Hoopeston

Ernest Junior Hurt, 96, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 5:05 A.M. Monday August 11, 2025, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston. He was born on February 10, 1929, in Lyons, IL, the son of Ernest Edward and Annie Jane (Franklin) Hurt. He married Erma Jean Rutledge on December 21, 1957, in Covington, IN. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2011.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie (Joe) Spencer and Edna (Fred) Gassaway; and one brother, Paul (Kay) Hurt.

He is survived by three sons, Jim (Terri) Hurt of Wellington, IL, Randy (Suzi-Beverly) Hurt of Danville, IL, and Ernest (Mazie) Hurt of Hoopeston, IL; four grandchildren, Dustin, Trevor, and Alex Hurt, and Melissa Carder; and several nieces and nephews.

Ernest worked at Joan of Arc in Hoopeston for 38 years until his retirement. He was a member of Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Hoopeston.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed driving around town and loved visiting with his friends at McDonald’s. Ernest always loved telling stories and jokes and could always make everyone laugh.

Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. Saturday August 16, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St. Hoopeston, IL. The funeral service will follow the visitation and will begin at 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor John Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.

Kenneth R. Byerly Sr., 73, of Hoopeston

Kenneth R. Byerly, Sr., 73, of Hoopeston, IL, passed away at 9:57 A.M. Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home. He was born on March 19, 1952, in Danville, IL, the son of Everett and Mary (Phillips) Byerly. He married Hester Weber on December 2, 1978, in Hoopeston. She survives.

He is also survived by one son, Kenny Byerly Jr. of Hoopeston, IL and one sister, Connie Lovell of Danville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Linda Foster; and four brothers, Robert, Ronnie, Everett James, and Richard Byerly.

Kenneth drove the migrant bus in Hoopeston and cared for his family. He loved antique cars and collecting model cars and clowns. He enjoyed going out to eat with his family, shopping, and working outside, especially mowing his yard.  The love of Kenneth’s life was his family, and he especially enjoyed helping his son, Kenny.

A private family service will be held.

Beverly J (Lile) Peavler 68, of Prescott Iowa, formerly of Hoopeston

Beverly J (Lile) Peavler 68, of Prescott Iowa, formerly of Hoopeston passed on Wednesday August 6th in Cedar Rapids.  She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Daymon Lile, and her brother Gary Lile. She is survived by her husband Jed Peavler of Prescott, Iowa, brothers Darrell (Amy) Lile of Hoopeston, Brian (Myra) Lile of Urbana, sisters Sharon McCarty of Rankin, and Laurissa (Brad) McDaniel of Dayton, Indiana, and multiple nieces and nephews.  A celebration of life may be held at a later date.

Dale Melvin Wilken, 59, of Gifford

Dale Melvin Wilken, 59, of Gifford passed away at 4:34 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.

He was born on September 27, 1965, in Urbana, the son of Melvin and Kathy (Severins) Wilken. They survive.  He is also survived by one son- Nathan (LeeAnn) Wilken of Wheelersburg, Ohio; granddaughter- Emma Rideout; two brothers- Darren (Daile Doman)Wilken of Gifford and David (Amy) Wilken of Armstrong; three nephews- Tyler (Spencer) Wilken, Trey (Trenaty Layton) Wilken and Justin Wilken; niece- Katelyn Wilken; and several aunts, uncles and cousins who were like siblings to Dale.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents- Anna and Lammert Wilken and maternal grandmother- Marie Fruhling.

Dale graduated from Armstrong High School in 1983. He has spent the past decade employed in general maintenance at Rantoul Foods, following previous positions with PDI and Eagle Wings. Dale was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gifford, as well as a founding and former board member of the Loda Truck and Tractor Pull Association. His interests included gardening, deer hunting, collecting eagle memorabilia and toy tractors, and attending truck and tractor pulls. Dale had a strong work ethic and willingness to assist others, and he loved to socialize and spend time hanging out with his friends while enjoying a cold beer.

A Celebration of Dale’s Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac.  Burial will follow the service in Partlow Cemetery, in Armstrong.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made in Dale’s name to Gift of Hope.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Dale’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at: www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
